UK and US SEO without a website full of duplicate pages

Plan regional website content around genuine differences in customer needs, delivery and terminology, with clear regional navigation.

Serving the UK and the United States does not require hundreds of near-identical location pages. Begin with what actually changes for a customer: terminology, delivery arrangements, currency, availability or the way a project is purchased.

Use regional pages when they help visitors

A UK page may explain the agency’s UK base and how a local business can discuss its service priorities. A US page for a UK-based agency should explain remote collaboration and agreed meeting times. It should not imply a US office that does not exist.

For Matrix, the UK page and US page provide these distinct starting points while sharing the same underlying service portfolio.

Keep the regional choice explicit

Let visitors choose their region through visible links. Someone travelling or working through a corporate network should still be able to reach the version they need. Avoid assuming that an IP address reveals the intended buying market.

Use language annotations carefully

For genuinely corresponding regional pages, hreflang annotations can identify alternatives such as British English and US English. Each page should reference the appropriate alternatives, including itself. Canonical URLs and hreflang have different jobs; check that the two do not contradict the intended structure.

Localise decisions, not just spelling

  • Describe actual service availability and collaboration arrangements.
  • Use the language customers use for their problem.
  • Explain how quotes and project scope will be agreed.
  • Use relevant examples without claiming unverified regional results.
  • Keep contact details and business identity accurate.

Measure each audience separately

In Search Console, compare country segments and the regional pages receiving impressions. In your lead process, record the market and service requested. A regional page may receive visitors without producing suitable enquiries, so assess usefulness as well as search visibility.

Only expand to more regions when there is a real service proposition and enough distinct information to help those customers. A change of city name is not a content strategy.
